NCSCM Work on long-term monitoring plan for Ecosystem-based conservation management for Bhitarkanika Conservation Area reviwed by PMU, OFSDP-II
In order to prepare the Eco-system Health Report Card for Bhitarkanika Conservation Area (BCA), progress made by the NCSCM, Chennai were reviewed at PMU, OFSDP on 31st October 2019 under the Chairmanship of Dr.(Mrs) Meeta Biswal, PD, OFSDP. The review programme was attended by PCCF(Wildlife)-cum-Chief Wildlife Warden, Mrs, P.Z. Mekro, IFS, Additional Project Director (A&F), OFSDP, Senior officials of PMU and PMC alongwith representatives of NCSCM.
Prof Ramesh Ramachandran, Director, NCSCM and Dr Purvaja of NCSCM made a joint and elaborate presentation on the expected outcome of the consulting assignment. They also presented the quarterly progress report of the scientific study of Bhitarkanika Conservation Area and submitted the Annual Report of 2018-19 for review to the PMU. Dr. Meeta Biswal, PD, OFSDP requested the NCSCM team to flag the important operational interventions and supports required in the field to be addressed by the PMU on priority basis.
Under Bio-diversity Component of OFSDP-II, NCSCM, Chennai is presently working on the Development of Eco-system Health Card of Bhitarkanika Sanctuary. The team is deployed at the sanctuary area to collect the inputs for analysis of data and preparation of the report card. NCSCM, Chennai in partnersihip with University of Maryland Centre for Environmental Science is developing a framework and indicators of the Eco-system Health Report Card of Bhitarkanika Conservation Area.
