Stakeholder workshop on eco-system health report card for BHITARKANIKA CONSERVATION AREA (BCA) was organised by OFSDP-II in collaboration with NCSCM

For the preparation of a Eco-system Health Reprot Card for Bhitarkanika Conservation Area (BCA), a two day Stakeholder Workshop was organised by OFSDP-II from 6th to 7th February 2019 at Hotel New Marrion, Bhubaneswar. The two day workshop was graced by Dr. Sandeep Tripathy, IFS PCCF (Wildlife), Shri L. K. Tewari, IFS Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Projects)-cum-Project Director, OFSDS, Dr. Simon Constanzo, Science Integrator of University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science along with Prof Ramesh Ramachandran, Director, NCSCM and Dr Ajit Kumar Pattnaik, Former PCCF, Government of Odisha. In his welcome address, PD, OFSDP, narrated the Long term monitoring plan for Ecosystem Based Management off Bhiatarkanika Conservation Area and outlined the expected outcome of the Eco-system Health Report Card Workshop under Bio-diversity component of the Phase-II of OFSDP.

Shri Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, IAS. Additional Chief Secretary, Forest and Environment Deparment, Govt. of Odisha addressed the workshop and appreciated that this exercise will help in the governance and management of the fragile Bhitarkanika Conservation Area. He also released a brochure on the long term monitoring and managing of BCA on this occasion.

Under Bio-diversity Component of OFSDP-II, NCSCM, Channai is presently working on the Development of Eco-system Health Card of Bhitarkanika Sanctuary. The team is deployed at the sanctuary area to collect the inputs for analysis of data and preparation of the report card. NCSCM, Chennai in partnersihip with University of Maryland Centre for Environmental Science is developing a framework and indicators of the Eco-system Health Report Card of Bhitarkanika Conservation Area.
