OFSDP-II organised second workshop on introduction of cmrv and REDD+forest management approaches on pilot basis for climate change mitigation under OFSDP-II
The Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project Phase-II (OFSDP-II) under the aegis of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized Second Preparatory Workshop on adoption of Community Based Monitoring Reporting and Verification (CMRV) and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation of Forest Lands (REDD+) readiness in its project areas on 1st March 2019 at Bhubaneswar. The workshop was organised to deliberate on the findings of the pilot areas of OFSDP-II on CMRV and REDD+ and preparedness of the OFSDP-II project divisions to implement the new methodology of Sustaninable Forest Management approach and prepare a framework of REDD+ actions in the state.
The workshop was graced by Dr. Hari Shankar Upadhyay,IFS, PCCF-cum- Director, Nandankanan Bilogical Park as Chief Guest, Shri L.K.Tewari, IFS, Project Director, OFSDP-II, Dr. Meeta Biswal, IFS, and Smt. Pusa Zhule Mekro, IFS, both Additional Project Directors of OFSDS. The DFOs-cum-Divisional Management Unit Chiefs of Athamallick, Baripada, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Karanjia, Ghumsur North, Ghummsur South, Rairangpur, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Sundergarh. Shri A.K. Pathak,IFS Additional PCCF, Plan Programme and Afforestation, Shri Suresh Pant,IFS RCCF, Berhampur and Dr. P.R.Karat, IFS, RCCF, Angulalso participated in the workshop.
Dr. Promode Kant, IFS(R) and Director of Institute of Green Economy (IGE) delivered a speech on evolution of C-MRV on international context. He deliberated on important aspects of C-MRV that are to be considered on Indian conetxt.
Dr.Indu K. Murthy, Professor of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, key resource person of the workshop shared how the objectives of OFSDP-II are to be correlated with the CMRV and REDD+ components. She highlighted the cost effectiveness of CMRV model in sustainable management of natural resource. .
