Overseas Training program on "Promotion of SATOYAMA Initiative" in Japan -sponsored by JICA from 02.10.2016 to 05.11.2016

JICA office New Delhi vide e-mail dated 11.04.2016 communicated their willingness to include the names of two officers from the Forest Department, Government of Odisha for their current year's training programme on "Promotion of SATOYAMA Initiative- Biodiversity conservation and rural development through the sustainable management of natural resources" to be held in Japan from 02.10.2016 to 05.11.2016. SATOYAMA initiative envision to realise societies in harmony with nature, that is, built on positive human-nature relationship and in which the maintenance and development of socio-economic activities align with natural processes. This course is intended to make the participant officers with full understanding of SATOYAMA landscape, SATOYAMA initiative and related policy matters. The study also involve the information sharing on community promotion through conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and the relevance of indigenous traditions and culture associated with this landscape.

The State Government in Forest and Environment Department approved the name of two officers to undergo the above training programme. 1. Sri Prakash Ch. Gogineni IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Phulbani Division 2. Dr Sanjeet Kumar IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Rourkela Division The above two officers underwent the training programme in Japan and after their arrival to Odisha, made a detailed presentation of their exposure during their stay in Japan and undergoing the training programme on Satayoma initiative. The presentation made by them on 06.12.2016 at PMU OFSDP at Bhubaneswar was attended by Sri Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Principal Secretary, Forest and Environment Department and Sri S.S. Srivastava, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Odisha apart from Dr. Ajit Kumar Patnaik, Project Director, OFSDP and other officials from OFSDS
